Nutritional Therapy

How well you feel depends on how efficiently your body produces essential enzymes, hormones and other substances. It also depends on how well your body gets rid of wastes and toxins that could interfere with your internal chemistry.

Nutritional therapy involves assessing what your body needs to perform these tasks efficiently.  It is not about giving the same treatment to everyone: two people with identical symptoms can have entirely different needs. Everyone is unique with different genetics, living environments and eating histories.  Each client must be individually assessed and given nutritional therapy based on the findings.

I focus on providing individuals with evidence-based advice on what to eat and not to eat.  Recognising that people are fed a vast amount of information about diet & health, I help families separate fact from fiction empowering individuals to achieve an optimum diet and lifestyle.

Nutritional Therapists recognise that health is more than just the absence of disease; it is dependent upon a multitude of factors and a reflection of a harmonious interaction with our environment. Good health means each individual has the capacity to live life to their full potential, in body, mind and spirit.

Nutritional Therapy also aims to increase the vitality of patients so that they can dispel disease by stimulating the body’s self-healing mechanism. Disease is seen as the body's response to challenges in the internal and external environment.  Perfect Health is achieved by: gentle detoxification, nutrition and dietary balance, supplements, herbal remedies, homeopathy and lifestyle changes.

About Me

Oliver has always been a keen cook and developed an early interest in food and nutrition.  This led to five years of study in Naturopathy and Nutrition, which has been supplemented with courses and study in Metabolic Typing and Ayurvedic medicine. Regular seminars are attended to keep abreast of the latest evidence in conventional and natural medicine. One of Oliver’s key interests is educating clients to dispel modern medical myths and to understand the impact of the current western diet on health.

The Consultation

I have helped people with many conditions including: skin health, sports nutrition, diabetes type I and II, Hypothyroid, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, autoimmune disease, age-related illness, neurodegenerative disease, intolerances & allergies, gastrointestinal complaints and weight loss.

The first consultation lasts 60-90 minutes with follow ups at 30-45 minutes in duration. During the initial consultation we will gather a detailed picture of your health by asking various questions and using non-invasive diagnostic techniques, including: metabolic typing, Chinese diagnostic methods and iridology.  Further external blood, urine or hair testing is also carried out where necessary.

Once areas of imbalance and deficiency have been identified, a bespoke nutritional protocol with accompanying food plan is provided.  Patients generally experience an improvement in their health within a few weeks of their first appointment with further improvements if not a complete return to perfect health within a few months.

If you are looking for an experienced north London nutrition consultant please contact Oliver on 07971 987615 to make an appointment or for further information.

Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional Therapy looks at the individual’s diet and lifestyle in order to identify and correct biochemical imbalances that may lead to body dysfunction. It works to locate the root of the problem and help the body heal itself.

Nutritional therapy may help conditions such as...

* Migraines and headaches
* Sinus problems
* Food intolerances
* Skin problems (eg, acne, eczema)
* Female hormonal and menstrual imbalances
* Arthritis
* Chronic fatigue
* Weight problems
* Lack of energy
* Bloating, constipation, diarrhoea
* Frequent colds and infections
* PMS
* Candida
* Recurrent thrush
* Preconception care
* Pregnancy and post-natal nutrition

A consultation enables the practitioner to make an in-depth analysis of an individual’s diet and discover those aspects that could be causing health problems.

What to expect from the first consultation
The nutrition consultant will take a thorough personal history and examine the completed health check form to gain an in-depth understanding of the patient’s health concerns. When necessary, the practitioner may carry out certain physical examinations*.

A tailored diet will be recommended and, where indicated, good-quality supplementation will be suggested. Specific laboratory tests may be needed to provide a better diagnosis and to determine any biochemical imbalances or infections.

A Nutrition therapy consultation is a collaboration between the therapist and the individual. Each person will be given advice on how to help his or her body to heal itself.

At least one follow up appointment should be booked in order to fully benefit.

Tests and supplements are additional costs. These will be discussed during the consultation.

48 hours notice is required if cancelling an appointment or full fee is charged.
*NB This is not a medical check up

Important notes: A health check form and the 3-day diet diary should be completed and returned prior to the initial consultation.

The diet diary should list everything eaten and drunk from the moment of waking until the time of sleep, including anything consumed during the night.

Not everything can be discussed on the first consultation; remaining issues will be discussed in subsequent visits

Tests Available
The following are available if deemed necessary and can be administered through a private laboratory:

* Hair Mineral Analysis
* Candida Overgrowth

Further Information About Nutritional Therapy

Thousands of years ago Hippocrates was credited with saying ‘let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.’ And a popular saying is: ‘you are what you eat.’ There is no doubt there is a strong relationship between our diets and our health. Even conventional medicine accepts that around a third of cancers are caused by diet.

Our 21st Century diets are radically different from what they were over a century ago. Problems like coronary heart disease, rheumatic disease, constipation and many others were rare before 1900, but are commonplace today. And many believe the consumption of refined, processed, overcooked foods, whose consumption has soared over the last century, has much to do with our present day health crisis.

During the second half of the twentieth century, a great deal of research has been carried out into nutrition, and many nutrients have been studied in depth. Although many conventional doctors still believe you can get all the nutrients you need from a well balanced diet, this has been challenged by others who hold the view that modern diets do not meet our nutritional requirements.

The concept of optimum nutrition is coming to the fore. This rejects the notion that vitamins are only needed in small amounts to stave off deficiency diseases. They are needed to the extent that they optimise the functioning of enzymes that depend on them. Only optimum nutrition will give us optimum health.

The scope of nutritional therapy is very wide. It encompasses the food that is eaten, its preparation, improving digestion, absorption, assimilation and excretion. The metabolism of the individual is also considered. Diets may be recommended for different stages of life, levels of activity, stress or occupation.

Consideration is given to exposure to antinutrients such as pollutants, heavy metal exposure, antibiotics, alcohol, tobacco etc., fluid levels, gut flora status and food sensitivities.

Nutritional therapy comes into its own when dealing with chronic health conditions where dietary manipulation combined with specific nutritional supplements are used to overcome these problems. Patients are treated as individuals so people labelled with the same health problem may receive different advice based on their particular constitution, metabolism and make-up.

The Nutritional Therapy Consultation

The initial consultation will last an hour or more. A detailed case history will be taken. A health questionnaire may be required to be completed before the consultation. Laboratory tests may be ordered such as urine or hair/mineral analysis, food allergy tests etc.

Dietary changes will be recommended along with appropriate supplements and possibly lifestyle changes.

Conditions that may respond to nutritional therapy: Since nutrition is so fundamental to our health, nutritional therapy can be used in any chronic condition.
